A Pro Castle is one of the most beautiful late Gothic pond houses in Switzerland. Situated near Lake Lucerne, it is one of the most highly regarded architectural and cultural sights in the canton of Uri. Its history, architecture and furnishings are a unique example of a 16th century manor house. A Pro Castle in Seedorf, surrounded by a moat, was built between 1555 and 1558 by the brothers Jakob I and Peter A Pro as a representative sign of their acquired wealth. Since 2022, A Pro Castle has been a member of the association "The Swiss Castles".
Since 2009, the castle has also been home to the Schloss A Pro restaurant, which is well-known beyond the cantonal borders, is run by a young couple of landlords and has 14 Gault Millau points. On the second and third floor there are rooms that are used for smaller art exhibitions on the one hand and for the presentation of minerals owned by the canton (for example Neat minerals) on the other.
The adjacent economy building (Sust) houses the Uri Mineral Museum . The Central Alps have been famous for their exceptional mineral and crystal deposits for centuries. In the Uri Mineral Museum, the most beautiful finds from this region are presented in an enchanting ambience. The exhibition is endowed annually.
The opening hours of the castle can be found on the website.
