A Pro Castle is one of the most beautiful late Gothic moated castles in Switzerland. Located near Lake Lucerne, it is one of the most notable architectural attractions in the canton of Uri. Its history, architecture, and furnishings are a unique example of a 16th-century stately home. Surrounded by a moat, A Pro Castle in Seedorf was built between 1555 and 1558 by brothers Jakob I and Peter A Pro as a symbol of their acquired wealth. A Pro Castle has been a member of the Swiss Castles Association since 2022.
The castle also houses the well-known Schloss A Pro restaurant. The second and third floors contain rooms that are used for small art exhibitions and display minerals owned by the canton that were found during the construction of the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the first and second Gotthard road tunnels, and other underground structures.
The adjacent farm building (Sust) houses theUri Mineral Museum. The Central Alps have been famous for centuries for their extraordinary mineral and crystal deposits. The Uri Mineral Museum presents the most beautiful finds from this region in an enchanting setting. The exhibition is renewed annually.
