Gotthard-Basistunnel

57 kilometers of tunnel - the Gotthard Base Tunnel set new standards worldwide in 2016 as the longest rail tunnel in the world. The tunnel can be experienced by means of a tunnel window in Amsteg. Behind the window, the trains rush past. Inside the mountain, there is an exhibition on tunnel construction, including a sample tunnel, as well as information about the Gotthard region. Guides present exciting facts and figures on a two-hour tour and provide expert answers to questions that are burning on your tongue.

World record in Erstfeld

At 57 kilometers in length, the Gotthard Base Tunnel is one of Switzerland's most groundbreaking record-breaking structures. Moreover, with a rock overburden of up to 2,300 meters, it is not only the longest but also the deepest rail tunnel in the world. Emergency stops with two lane changes are located in Faido and Sedrun. These multifunction stations divide the tunnel tubes into three sections. Since December 11, 2016, trains have been rushing through the gigantic structure at regular intervals.
